An AAAA record is an IP within the recently introduced IPv6 format and it is comprised of 8 sets of hexadecimal digits, as opposed to the IPv4 IPs, which include four sets of numbers in between 1 and 255. An illustration of an IPv6 address would be 3014:0d43:23a3:2354:1320:8f3b:2635:3254 and in this format the amount of IPs which can be created is many times higher than the number of the IPv4 addresses. Every domain name has its hosting server IP address as a record and in essence, this record instructs the domain where the Internet site for it can be found. Depending on the system that the company employs, the record is going to be called A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6). Changing this record allows you to host your Internet site with one company and your e-mails with a different one, so if you decide to use such a redirection to forward a domain address to a server that uses an IPv6 address, you'll have to create an AAAA record for it.
AAAA Records in Hosting
If you need to create a new AAAA record a domain name or subdomain hosted within your hosting account, it is not going to take you more than several basic steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia CP is rather intuitive to use and is going to permit you to set up or edit any record easily. Once you log in and navigate to the DNS Records section, where you'll discover all present records for your domain addresses and subdomains, you'll only have to click the "New" button, choose AAAA from a small drop-down menu inside the pop-up that'll appear, input or paste the necessary IPv6 address and save the modification - it's as easy as that. The new record shall be 100% live within only an hour and the hostname you have created it for shall start opening whatever content you have with the other company. If needed, you'll also be able to modify the TTL (Time To Live) value, which shows the time in seconds the new record will be working after you eventually change it to something different or you simply delete it.
